The Best Quality DVD Copy Media

Posted under All Software,DVD Copy Software by rjeromeh on Monday 4 May 2009 at 10:09 am

Not all blank DVD media is good for making copies of your DVD movies. Most are not aware that blank DVD media – DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD+R have what is called a Media Class ID.

There are four Classes:

  • 1st Class Media
  • 2nd Class Media
  • 3rd Class Media
  • 4th Class Media

First Class Media

Blank DVDs rated with a First Class Media ID are the absolute best media to make copies of your DVDs on. They have a 95-100% reliable success rate. Therefore, you will get almost flawless burns.

Second Class Media

Blank DVD media with a Second Class ID have an 80-95% success rate. Though not perfect, you will get decent results.

Third Class Media

Blank DVD media with a Third Class ID will produce questionable results. You get a 50-80 success rate. Even though cheaper, I would avoid these.

Fourth Class Media

Blank DVD media with a Fourth Class ID are pathetic; unless you need drink coasters. You get a 0-50% success rate.

Maybe It’s Your Media

On occasion I get complaints from individuals using the many different DVD copy software out there and some are usually very quick to blame the DVD copy program. They use colorful metaphors explaining how crappy the software is. In some instances, some of them are right – is some crappy and buggy DVD copy software out there. Typically though, when I here complaints about all of the ruined DVDs they have produced as a result of an incomplete burn, 9 times out of 10 that individual is using cheap blank DVD media such as Third and Forth Class media.

I personally use Verbatim Digital Movie DVD-Rs. They produce great copies and I have never had a problem with them. You can get them at any Best Buy store.

Maybe It’s Your Computer

Sometimes the issue is with your PC not have enough resources. Trying to make copies of DVD movies will be a cumbersome task if you have an old computer. Your computer should have, at a minimum, a 500MHz processor (this is 0.5GHZ). Anything above that – such as a 1.0GHz, 2.0GHz, 3.0GHz or more is better. You should have a least 9GB of free hard disk space, at least 256MB of RAM (more is better), and a DVD Writer installed in your computer. Other names for DVD Writer is DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, or DVD Burner. Your operating system can be either Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista. The latter two are preferable.

Now that you know what to look for when purchasing blank DVD media to copy your DVD’s, let me tell you what I know to be the best DVD Copy product out there: 1Click DVD Copy Pro.

I have been using it for years and it is solid as a rock. It has a long development history which means that most of the bugs have been worked out. This is the one I highly recommend. It is money well spent especially if you are into backing up your valuable DVD movie collection.
